Adapted from Ladies in Blue fresco, Knossos, Crete (1,600-1450 BCE), Oil on canvas (24x30")©Eugene G. Maurakis, Ph.D. The fresco was discovered by Sir Arthur Evans, British Archaeologist, during excavations of the Minoan Palace at Knossos from 1900-1905. The fresco was recreated by Swiss artist Émile Gilliéron and his son who consulted Evans. To date, it is unknown if their interpretation of fresco fragments depicts the original fresco.
